Huckabay survives scare from Lady Panthers

The Huckabay Lady Indians weathered a tough start on Friday and then held on to claim a 45-24 victory in a showdown of two state-ranked Class A girls’ squads.

The Huckabay Lady Indians weathered a tough start on Friday and then held on to claim a 45-24 victory in a showdown of two state-ranked Class A girls’ squads.

Huckabay, which came into the contest ranked No. 1 in the state, fought its way to a quick lead. They outscored Gorman by a 15-7 clip in the initial eight minutes of play.

They turned the game over to their defense from there. Huckabay held Gorman to just nine points over the next two quarters and built a 35-16 lead heading into the final frame.
