By Tommy Wells, Joseph Rainey didn’t deliver the hit that was heard around the world on Friday. He did, however, deliver the one that knocked the Eula Pirates out of the postseason.
Rainet belted a tworun single in the bottom of the fifth inning and powered the Gorman Panthers to a 3-1 victory over Eula in the Class A baseball playoffs.
With the win, Gorman advances to face Ira this weekend. The two squads are scheduled to open a best-of-three series on Friday at McMurry University in Abilene. Game 1 of the series will get started at 5 p.m. The second game will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game 1. A third game, if needed, will be played at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
