Life-time Eastland County resident, Joy Lynn Craven Maynard turned 90 years young on July 4, 2023! Family and friends helped her celebrate this occasion at First Presbyterian Church, which was her family’s church home when she was born. Joy Lynn “Firecracker Punk” as her daddy (Howard “Shorty” Craven) called her, has three children (Howard (Susie Sneed), Diana (Grady Gregory), and Nancy Lynn (Michael G. Jones). All three children and their spouses were EHS graduates (and high school sweethearts!). Joy is a proud granny to seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. 08/03/2023 12:00 AM

Fiscal Notes: An Analysis of State Workforce Challenges
Fiscal Notes: An Analysis of State Workforce Challenges
In the June/July issue of Fiscal Notes, the Texas Comptroller’s office offers a synopsis of its new workforce report and highlights some of the efforts underway to address attrition issues in state government. The recently released A Report on the Texas State Employee Workforce (PDF) analyzes the state government workforce and factors affecting state employee retention and turnover for fiscal 2019-- 2023. “To make state agencies more competitive in the job market, lawmakers approved a meaningful salary boost for all current state employees as part of the 2024-25 state budget,” Texas Comptroller Glenn Hegar said. “The other concern is that much of the state turnover comes from critical needs positions like Child Protective Services workers and prison staff, to name just two.” 08/03/2023 12:00 AM

It Seems To Me
It Seems To Me
Aren’t we a funny people? Do you ever laugh at yourself? Apparently if you say “bless his heart” or “bless her heart” it frees you to gossip all you want about another person. “Bless her heart” she tries so hard on making the turkey and dressing”, which means you could have done better. “Bless his heart” he just never learned to iron a shirt”, which means, you aren’t going to Wal-Mart till he changes his shirt. And if you preface your response to another person’s statements with “I’m just saying”. 08/03/2023 12:00 AM
