Paula Suzanne Butler Reese
Paula Suzanne Butler Reese
She was born February 8, 1943, Ranger, Texas, to Clara and Kenneth Butler. Clara was rumored to be the first working pregnant woman in Eastland history while Kenneth was deployed in the Army.
Suzanne met Harold Reese of Scranton, Texas, in college and they married in Eastland June 8, 1963. After graduation from Abilene Christian College, the couple moved to La Junta, Colorado, where Harold planned to teach at a low income school until he paid off the college loans, Harold as principal and Suzanne as a substitute teacher, and later as Swink School Secretary, and later as La Junta Junior High Secretary and Bookkeeper. Their stay in La Junta lasted for 30 years before their retirement and a return to Texas where they settled in their home in Cisco. They were active members of the La Junta Church of Christ; Suzanne taught, created a program called Juniors for Jesus, and coached teams for the Bible Bowl.
They were members of the Cisco Church of Christ and active travelers. Suzanne accompanied Harold on his Park Ranger adventures-- Deadwood Central Railroad in South Dakota, Mount Rushmore National Monument, and the Lyndon B. Johnson State Park in Texas. No matter where the vacations or Park Ranger jobs 15 led them. They always recalled their roots, as Harold lovingly referred to her as his Yellow Rose of Texas. Suzanne was soft-spoken women, aside from the occasional megaphone at her daughters’ weddings. She will be fondly remembered as a Christian sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Clara Butler, husband of 53 years Harold Reese, and sister-in-law Barbara Stancil.
She is survived by daughters Kathleen Hodge of Meridian, Idaho, Laura O’Connell and husband Thomas of Alamogordo, New Mexico, sister Sherry Loeb and husband Michael of Cypress, brothers-inlaw : Lyndel Reese and wife Veta of Odessa, and James and Jackie Reese of Abilene, Texas.
