Cisco loses to Breckenridge 41-6
Friday, September 8, 2023, at Chesley Field, the Breckenridge Buckaroos won the battle over the Cisco Loboes, as they kicked, carried, and threw the wobbly pigskin. The score was 41 to 6 in favor of Breckenridge. Cisco now is 0-3 for the year and Breckenridge is 1-2, but I might hasten to add the team is getting more polished and is coming together. The score is no indication of what transpired, and evidence of a really good football team is emerging from the ashes of Friday night. Cisco afforded Breckenridge 3 long scores the 1st half, and a 4th score was made with 7 seconds left in the half. Notice Breck ran the opening kickoff back, then Cisco marched the ball down to the Breck 25 yard line, and they stripped the ball from the Cisco runner and ran it 75 yards for a 2nd TD, and finally the 3rd Buck TD was set up by a pass interception; it was 21-0 in favor of Breckenridge at the end of the 1st Quarter and with 7 seconds left in the half it was 27 to 0. Meanwhile Cisco had marched the ball to the 5 yard line and the 11 yard line and came away with no score. In the 3rd Quarter the Loboes made it to the 5 yard line and the 14 yard line—before 2 interceptions foiled their efforts. To add insult to injury as the saying goes, Gus Hart. Cisco's starting tailback didn't play the 2nd half because of a knee injury. Breckenridge stripped the ball twice, once for a 75 yard TD and the other time near the goal line which prevented a Cisco score. So, taking everything into account, Cisco played a whale of a game, moving the ball freely from their spread formation, and utilizing the pass to great effectiveness. Yes, I witnessed the Lobo line playing their hearts out in the 100 degree heat for the 3rd week in a row and they were opening holes and keeping people out and stopping it up the middle. You guys are great. There are great things ahead. Brayden Rogers and Cole Thompson seemed to be all over the field. Remember and watch for these numbers this next game: #50 Jackson Wilks, #52 Cordell Harper, #53 Haden Rains, #55 Tyler Brown, #66 Talon Bruner, #73 Brant Slagle, #75 Tanner Thompson, and #88 Rezner Wilks.

After Cisco College’s 20-19 conference win over Blinn College this past weekend, Head Football Coach Stephen Lee is a happy man. It was the first conference game this season, and it was also Coach Lee’s first conference win for Cisco.

Cisco Writers Club Contest Winners
Awards for the 47th Annual Cisco Writers Club Writing Contest were announced at a ceremony at the Myrtle Wilks Community Center on September 7, 2023. The gathering consisted of contest entrants and their friends and families. Of course, authors who entered the contest from far away states or countries weren’t in attendance. But isn’t it cool that the annual writing contest has become an international competition?

Cisco loses to Wall 27 to 10
Wall defeated the Cisco Loboes in football at Chesley Field in Cisco 27 to 10. This marked the second loss in a row for the 2023 season. Last week Cisco lost to Clyde by a score of 40 to 28. Cisco's JV Team recorded its second victory of the season at Wall Thursday night winning 37 to 13, and a week ago also defeated Clyde JV 34 to 32.

Making Complex Nonfiction Fun to Read by Vera Day I have an engineering physics degree. I totally get it. Nonfiction, especially complex or scientific subjects, can be boring. But if an author can connect to the reader on a more personal level by channeling the subject and its examples into a character, then it’ll be easier for the reader to grasp and more fun to read, too.

TRTA at the Conrad Hilton
The local presidents from Texas Retired Teacher Association District 14 met at the Conrad N. Hilton Center in Cisco for lunch on Thursday, August 31, 2023. The meeting was hosted by the District 14 officers and Eastland County Ret i r edTe a c h e r s ’ Association. District 14 officers included President Ruth Stewart and Carole Clower from Eastland County Retired Teachers’ Association; First Vice President Paula Haynes, Treasurer Susan Leamy, and Past President Sharon Daugherty from Abilene Retired Teachers’ Association. Eastland County RTA President Gail Norris, Treasurer Kathy High, and Past Presidents Tammy Loran and Kathy Glidewell helped to welcome guests.Presidents from local chapters included Presidents Gail Norris (Eastland CountyRetired Teachers’ Association); Patsy Sanford (Rolling Plains RTA, Roscoe); Vanessa Murray (Scurry County RTA, Snyder); John and Marilyn Kieke (Stephens County RTA, Breckenridge; Dellnita Jones (Schakleford County RTA, Albany; and Janna Dowell, representing Steve Post (Abilene RTA); and some of their local officers.Special guests TRTA District 10 President Gary Schepf and District 15 President Karen Hoelscher presented a program about improving an onlinepresence for local chapters and districts. Kaopua’s 3 TDs leads Wranglers to 57-7 rout of TWA
Christian Kaopua completed 11 of his 13 passing attempts for 179 yards and three touchdowns on Saturday and led the Cisco College Wranglers to an easy 57-7 rout of the TWA Prep Battlecats in front of a small seasonopening crowd at Chesley Field.

Second-quarter surger lifts Clyde past Cisco
The Clyde Bulldogs scored three times in the second quarter on Friday and then held on to claim a 40-28 victory over the Cisco Loboes in the season-opener for both squads. The game was played in front of a large crowd at Clyde’s Bulldog Stadium.
