EASTLAND – Ben David Lancaster, age 89, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 11, 2023 surrounded by his family. Visitation was held Thursday, April 13th from 6-8 PM at Edwards Funeral Home in Eastland. Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm Friday, April 14th at First Baptist Church Eastland, with internment following at the Eastland Cemetery.

COACH BOBBY SCHUMAN NAMED AS HEAD FOOTBALL COACH
Ryan Jones Coach Bobby Schuman has been named as the Head Football Coach of the Eastland Mavericks for the 2023 Football season. Coach Schuman has been with the EISD’s Athletics Department since 2017, and has served as Girl’s Athletic Coordinator, Head Boys and Girls Track Coach, and Maverick Football Special Teams Coordinator.

Lady Panthers streak to Area track crown
The Gorman Lady Panthers raced their way to 14 medals last week and cruised to the Area 19-20 Track and Field Championship at Bob and Norma Cervetto Field. Gorman, backed by first-place finished from Lluvia Solis and Yahlee Torrez, rolled up 138 points and finished well ahead of rival Gordon for the top spot in the girls’ team standings.

Morton steps down as Mavericks’ head football coach
If the 1980s were the golden age of Eastland High School Mavericks’ football program, the 2010’s and 2020’s would certainly have to be considered the silver age as Eastland rolled to a pair of district championships and six postseason appearance from 2016 to 2022.
