Ranger Volunteer Fire Dept. Awarded Grant

The Ranger Volunteer Fire Department Fire Department has been awarded a grant for Volunteer Recruitment from the Texas A&M Forest Service in the amount of $3000.00. This grant will go towards banners and mailers to improve the fire departments recruitment efforts to seek new volunteers.

National Vietnam War Veterans Day To Be Celebrated March 25 at Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park

National Vietnam War Veterans Day is actually March 29th but the Ranger Veterans Support Group will have this day on Saturday, March 25th. The program will start at 1 p.m. Prayer, Pledge of Allegiance, and speech.

Oscar Villarreal ended the 2023 powerlifting regular season on a high note this past weekend. The RHS senior clinched a berth in the upcoming regional meet by winning the 275-pound weight classification at the Strawn Invitational.

Woodbridge Church Services at Ranger College Auditorium Temporarily

Woodbridge Church (now temporarily at Ranger College auditorium) wasn’t totally full at its temporary location in the ‘giant’ ultra-up-todate modern auditorium Sunday while the church’s original worship center is undergoing expansion and modernization. Both locations are on the main entrance off I-20 into Ranger.

Local Beekeeper presents program at Ranger Lions Club

Lance Hawvermale, known to most through his position at Ranger College as Dean of Humanities and Fine Arts - and as a successful book author surprised some at Ranger Lions Club recently with his talk about the ins and outs, joys and hazards of being a beekeeper. Invited to give the program by Lion Dean Mason, Hawvermale proved to be an enthusiastic beekeeper and provided fascinating insights into the lives of bees and production of honey. He reminded that around 1/3 of our food is available because of pollination. “Essentially, when the bees go away, we could go away,” he said. A combination of circumstances are harming the bee population, he added, including a lack of rain, lack of forage, use of pesticides and change of climate.

100 and 101 Days of School

Ranger Elementary celebrated the 100th and 101st days of school this week. On day 100, some dressed up like they were 100 years old. On day 101, some students dressed like the 101 Dalmatians. Kindergarten went to Dairy Queen for dipped cones.

Bulldogs, Wildcats do well at Hico meet

The Ranger Bulldogs and Rising Star Wildcats both turned in solid showings last week at the Hico Invitational Powerlifting Meet. The event was held Jan. 26 in the Hico High School gym.

Rangers, Wranglers picked 4th, 5th in NTJCAC poll

Fresh off their first appearance in the Region V Baseball Tournament in almost four decades, the Ranger College baseball program is beginning to get some love from the baseball world again. A two-time NJCAA national champion, Ranger College was picked to finish fourth in the upcoming Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference race. The preseason ranking marked the first time since the mid-1980s that RC was a preseason pick to finish in the upper echelon of what many consider to be the top baseball conference in the nation.

Lady Rangers rally past Temple

Keaundra Kelly and Sanaiya Morris both recorded doubledoubles on Wednesday night and helped the Ranger College Lady Rangers rally for a thrilling 5855 victory over the Temple College Lady Leopards in front of a small crowd in the Ron Butler Gymnasium in Ranger. With the win, the Lady Rangers improved to 1-2 in Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference play. Overall, RC is 7-10.
