Scientific data shows that a female is born with X chromosomes which is established in the womb, and a male with an XY chromosome. When a man wants to be called a woman, or a woman wants to be called a man, does their request make it so? 03/02/2023 12:00 AM

Blue Collar Art Reception at the Lyric in Eastland
Blue Collar Art Reception at the Lyric in Eastland
Blue Collar is an art exhibition at Lyric Art Center in Eastland County, Texas. Four artists contemplate labor using materials ranging from clay and barbed wire to paint and charcoal. Gary Ford and Beth Pearson Lund from Eastland and Kirstyn Wright and William Wright from Decatur find inspiration in their West Texas surroundings. This is visible in choices of materials and subject matter. Motifs of barbed wire, cowboy hats, work boots, and wind turbines, weave throughout the artworks representing only a part of labor in West Texas. 03/02/2023 12:00 AM

COVID-19 cases show decline
The number of new cases of COVID-19 reported by the Coronavirus Resource Center at Johns Hopkins University in Texas in the past week dropped to 25,229, with 189 deaths reported. The number of lab-confirmed COVID-19 hospitalizations in the state dipped slightly to 1,952, according to the Texas Department of State Health Services. The number of actual cases is likely higher, since people who test positive using a home kit generally are not reported in the case count. 02/23/2023 12:00 AM

Editor, Gender neutral language There has been discussion concerning 'gender neutral' language in Eastland County Personnel Policy. Upon investigation, I have learned that the language change recommendation came from the Human Resource (HR) Department of the Texas Association of Counties (TAC). I have found no evidence of a 'woke' agenda among the Commissioners Court nor County Officers. 02/23/2023 12:00 AM
