Letter To Editor
It’s Not Enough to Just Vote Republican Most of us realize our country is on a very bad course. The president and his Democrat party have allowed our borders to be overrun. They promote gender- changing surgery for children, and males competing in girls’ sports. They are forcing us to replace fossil fuels with so-called “renewable energy”, which will greatly increase the cost of every aspect of living. The complete tally of changes they are trying to force on society is too lengthy to list here. But these changes all have three things in common: They are supposedly done for “the common good,” they give the government coercive, dictatorial powers, and they rob us of our individual freedoms.

Mavs fall into tie with Maidens for 2nd in District 8-3A race
The Comanche Maidens scored 44 points in the first half on Friday and then held off a furious rally by the Eastland Lady Mavericks to claim a wild 78-75 victory in a key District 8-3A showdown. With the win, Comanche moved into a tie with Eastland for second in the district race. Both teams moved to 4-1 in 8-3A action, one game behind state-ranked Brock. Comanche survived a red hot start by the Lady Mavs in the first quarter. The Maidens pushed home a couple of shots later in the first quarter and captured a slim 23-20 lead heading into the start of the second quarter. Messenger scored nine points in the third, including five from the free throw line. Hood tallied five of her eight points in the frame. Overall, Messenger hit 11 shots from the charity stripe. After Comanche had rallied to regain the lead, Ari Montano handed Eastland its only other lead. She pushed home a shot late in the game that put the Lady Mavs up 72-69. The Lady Mavs, now 10-4 overall, will travel to Dublin on January 12. Their next home appearance will be against Peaster on Jan. 19.

The 4th Annual Boots and Bling Charity Ball sponsored by Eastland Memorial Hospital Volunteers is just around the corner. This year’s Gala will be held on Saturday, February 10th, 2024, at the Lumber Yard Event Center in Eastland. We will be entertaining a MARDI GRAS Theme! The pre-party Party will begin at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30. A live Auction will kick off after dinner. Conclude the evening dancing the night away with the ZAK WEBB band. We will also have a silent auction going on throughout the gala. Our goal is to raise money for purchases needed for local healthcare at Eastland Memorial Hospital.
