By Tommy Wells At the age of 81, Dr. Sandra Hazelip stunned everyone when she announced she was going to take Jules Verne’s advice and travel around the world in 80 days. Not necessarily by balloon, but she and her friend, Ellie Hamby, did.

Summer at the Eastland Library
We had an amazing turnout for Science at the Library. There were 140 people who came by to see Mr. Culverhouse and his microscopes. The one where we could watch the silver was my favorite. ( Photos to the right and below - submitted by Eastland Memorial Library)

Books Donated To Local Students
The Eastland County Retired Teachers Association donated over 200 books to students of Siebert Elementary in May to promote reading during the summer. The students get to keep the books and take them home and continue their reading skills.

By Tommy Wells Renee Alexander admits to not liking to have to change jobs. In fact, she hated the idea of having to find a new position so much that when she found out the owners of the Ranger Care Center were looking to retire after more than 40 years in the business, she decided to take extreme measures.

SHEEP AND GOAT PRODUCTION CLINIC FRIDAY, JUNE 2
The Eastland County AgriLife Extension Office will hold an introductory educational program on commercial hair sheep and meat goat production Friday June 2 at 1:00 pm. The program will be held in the Judge Scott Bailey Center at 102 N. Lamar and cover basics in breeds, selection, herd health, nutrition, facilities, and marketing. A farm tour of Jason and Brandy Jones’ Dorper Sheep Farm near Rising Star will follow, providing an opportunity to visit with successful producers in the industry and hear their story. Register by calling 254-629-2222. Cost will be $20 per person.
