Tea Party Patriots of Eastland County is pleased to host Dr. Carole Hornsby Haynes 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 11, at the Myrtle Wilks Community Center, 1498 W I 20, Cisco. She will speak via live stream on School Choice in America. Dr. Carole Hornsby Haynes is a much sought after education policy, social emotional learning, and Critical Race Theory expert and public speaker. A noted author and accomplished pianist and organist, her extensive and widely published commentaries on education, culture, history, and politics are popular with both national and international audiences. Dr. Haynes' work reflects her deep conviction that once Americans understand the consequences of cultural decay and political decision- making, they will lead the return to our founding principles.

Continued from May 4, 2023 edition) By Duane Hale Believe it or not, Cisco built in 1970 a new hospital named the Graham Memorial Hospital. It replaced the former Humbletown Hospital which had been renamed the Graham Hospital. Yes, they received a grant of over $313,000, plus they used bonds for a hospital a costs, with the furnishings, of nearly $900,000.

With a total of eight directors, including present one Bill Harden, and after attending 8 Presidential inaugurals, 11 governor inaugurals, and visiting 42 states and 17 countries (so far) the “World Famous Hardin Simmons Univ. Cowboy Band “ has reached the centennial year since it’s founding under conductor D.O. Wiley in 1923 in Abilene.

Loboes race to second at Region II-2A track meet
The Cisco High School Loboes knew going into the 2023 Region II-2A Track and Field Championships if they wanted to have a legitimate shot at making a run at the Class 2A state title in Austin on May 1214 they would need to turn in a stellar outing in Springtown on April 28-29.

Cisco’s Bonded Indebtedness Dragged On For 26 Years From 1929 to 1955
According to an article written by Katheryn Duff of the Abilene Reporter- News, published April 13, 1955, page 8, Cisco had been paying the interest on some of its bonds for 21 years, from 1934 to 1955. She stated, “The City of Cisco will be able to get its financial house back in order, or has hopes of doing so, under bills which are clearing the Legislature on local calendars.”

Oznick, Eastland athletes shine at Region I-3A meet
Jay Oznick capped his high school in memorable fashion this past weekend with a stellar showing at the Region I-3A Track and Field Championships. The EHS standout finished in the top 10 in both of his events while competing in front of a large crowd at Abilene Christian University’s Elmer Gray Stadium.

Eastland PD, Local Business re-kindle Teddy Bear Program
The Eastland Police Department has teamed up with a local business to rekindle an on-going Teddy Bear Program Brandon’s Dozer Service has graciously sponsored and purchased Teddy Bears to be placed in our squad cars. Teddy Bears have been around for some time, in fact, way back to President Teddy Roosevelt’s era (1902). After a little reading, it was learned that Brooklyn candy store owners Rose and Morris Michtom made the first stuffed bear toy based off a cartoon, which they appropriately named Theodore Roosevelt and over time became known as the Teddy Bear. This couple from Brooklyn, according to some stories made the bear after a hunting trip that President Roosevelt was on where he refused to shoot a tied up bear. They were so moved by this act, they were inspired to make the stuffed bear.

I am currently working on the Eastland Economic Development Board and Planning & Zoning Board which I have served for 5 years. I also volunteer with our Eastland Hospital Volunteers and on our Chamber of Commerce Board. I was born in 1961 at our Eastland Hospital and graduated in the EHS class of 1979.
