Eva Griffin Southerland

EVA (GRIFFIN) SOUTHERLAND – 80 from Eastland, Texas went home to be with her Lord and Savior and life long love on Friday, May 14, 2021, surrounded by her four loving children. Her spirit was released to go home from the Abilene, Texas Hendricks Hospital ICU.

Eva was born to parents James Russell Griffin and Nellie Ester (Hughes) Griffin on April 20, 1941. Her childhood homestead sits at the bottom of Lake Leon and she lived out her last 31 years in Eastland. Eva was a devout Christian/Baptist, she embarked in nursing care and committed herself as a wife, mother, and Maw Maw. She loved racing homing pigeons, fishing, art and crafts, bluebonnet country drives, rock hunting, spending time with her loved ones, and gardening, especially roses. She was honored and gave yard of the month in 2008. All that knew her loved her.

Eva was preceded in death by her beloved husband, of 58 years Jerry Lee Southerland 78 on November 22, 2014. They were married April 10, 1956 in Tulia, Texas. She was also preceded by four brothers – Morris Clinton, Russell Elmer, Elba Eudell, and Bobby Joe Griffin.

She is survived by 5 ^th and youngest brother – Gaylon Dean Griffin, her four children – Ronnie Gene Southerland, Sherry Ann Maxey, Leaha Darlene Southerland, Loanna Kay Starr, one son-in-law David N. Starr, three grandchildren - Christy Gene Guajardo, Anthony Lee Starr, Cherrissa Eva Southerland, four Great Grandchildren - Elaina Maggio, Ash Green, Leelu Starr, Cora Southerland, and many beloved Nieces & Nephews.

She will be in state Thursday, May, 20, 2021 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Graveside Services for Eva Southerland will be held at the Merriman Cemetery, May, 21, 2021 at 2 p.m. Family and friends are invited to attend.
