Rena Mae Wright Robertson

Rena Mae Wright Robertson, age 86, passed away January 8, 2019 surrounded by her loving and faithful husband of 65 years and her loving and supportive sons.

She was born April 26, 1932, in Gorman, Texas to David Homer Wright and Lexie Pearl Tierney Wright. She graduated from Gorman High School in 1951. While in high school, she worked as a soda-jerk at the Gorman drug store and was a cheerleader. She continued to be the cheerleader for her children, grand-children, and great grand-children as they made her proud in everything they did.

After graduation, she married the love of her life, Cecil Lee Robertson, on September 3, 1953. As a newlywed couple, they began their life together in Austin, Texas where Rena worked for the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles.

Following a 2 year stay in Austin, Rena and Cecil moved to Odessa, Texas where their family grew to 4 with the births of their two sons, Michael and Ken. Rena was very involved in her church, as she taught Bible Classes for well over 50 years and maintained the teacher work rooms at Eisenhower and Bangs Churches of Christ. Her servant’s heart was evident as she volunteered at Meals on Wheels and visited many patients in the hospitals and in their homes as well as volunteering at the Cisco and Brady Church Youth Camps each summer, preparing meals for the campers.

Rena was an excellent cook and always took great pride preparing meals for her family and friends. She had an appreciation of flowers of all kinds, which was evident in her beautiful gardens which she meticulously maintained. Rena never met an animal she didn’t love and want to spoil. She was a huge fan of Elvis Presley, always singing his songs and collecting all types of memorabilia – coincidentally, she passed away on Elvis’s birthday!

Rena is survived by her husband, Cecil Lee Robertson of Lubbock, Texas, sons Dr. Michael Robertson and wife Lisa of Lubbock, Texas, and Ken Robertson and wife Phyllis of Grapevine, Texas; grandchildren, Chris Robertson and wife Vanessa of Frisco, Texas, Cory Robertson and wife Lauren of Kalispell, Montana, Sarah Tucker and husband Tony of Marshall, Texas, and Kerrick Robertson and wife Alyssa of Dallas, Texas; great-grandchildren Camille, Eli, Jack, and Avery. She is preceded in death by her parents, David Homer and Lexie Wright, sisters Nellie Wright and Monie Warren Craddock, and brother Vernon Wright.

A celebration of Rena’s life was held at Higginbotham Funeral Home, 219 W Roberts Street, Gorman, Texas, at 2:00 on January 12, 2019. Interment will follow at the Gorman Oaklawn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Gorman Oaklawn Cemetery, 510 Ector Street, Gorman, Texas, 76454.
