Vida Cora Gilbert

EASTLAND – Vida Cora Gilbert, age 96, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, February 5, 2020 at the Ranger Care Center.

Services for Vida were held at 10 am Monday, February 10, 2020 at the Merriman Baptist Church in Ranger. Family and friends gathered from 2 – 4 pm on Sunday at Edwards Funeral Home at 411 S. Mulberry in Eastland. Interment will be at the Merriman Cemetery.

Vida Gilbert was born on March 2, 1923 in Girard, TX to Joseph and Oma Ina (Joiner) Jenkins. On November 21, 1936 she married the love of her life, Leonard Arvis Gilbert in Spur, TX and spent the next 64 years by his side until his death in 2001. She spent most of her life as a seamstress sewing for her family, a sewing factory and later making draperies but she was also a very capable bull dozer operator. Vida was an excellent cook and more importantly love the Lord and was a member at Merriman Baptist Church. Her greatest pride was of her children and grandchildren. She was an amazing and loving Mother.

Vida is preceded in death by her loving husband Leonard, her parents, 4 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her daughter Patricia Ann Bowles and husband Gene, and son Joe Gilbert and his wife Lavonna, 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 13 great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial can be made in memory of Vida to the Merriman Baptist Church.
