Duane Hale, owner of museum

Lela Latch Lloyd Museum

The Lela Latch Lloyd museum is housed in the old Cisco City Hall, which also held the jail, mayor’s office, and the first theater in Cisco, functioning in 1915. Duane Hall bought the abandoned building in 2001 and begin to renovate the museum, a five year project. Named after a local historian and author, Lela Latch Lloyd, its goal is to honor her life along with the history of Cisco, TX, and surrounding areas. In the museum, exhibits span from archaeological finds, such as the infamous spider rock, metal detectors, the old dam, and an alumni room honoring the High School and College, to the Palace Theater, and a functioning player piano, along with many more.

Janet Hounshell, current Librarian

Cisco Public Library

Although the Cisco Public Library was founded in 1891 by Frank Vernon, the Twentieth Century Club took responsibility for its function and funding in 1900. The library started in the Vernon home, moving to the grounds of the present day USPS, and finally to it’s current building, with its first use in 1932. The library now mostly serves older generations, according to current library Janet Hounshell, but there are more children during the summer months. An important facet of the Cisco Library is the partnership with the Meals on Wheels program; if a participant desires to borrow a book, it can be sent with the meals. There is also an ongoing book sale with all proceedings going back go the library. The hours have recently changed to only two days a week, Wednesday and Friday, 12:30-5pm.
