BBB of Abilene and The Big Country Warns of Employment Scams

During the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic, unemployment numbers in Texas quickly rose from under 10,000 per week in early February to over 150,000 per week by the end of the same month, according to the Texas Workforce Commission (TWC). With more than one million Texans applying for unemployment benefits in the last month alone, scammers are taking advantage of the situation. If you have employment related questions, make sure you are seeking answers from the right people.

Ranger College Announces COVID-19 Displaced Worker/ Student Scholarship Program

Ranger, Texas – In response the COVID-19 crisis, Ranger College today announced a new scholarship program designed to assist displaced workers and students who have been adversely impacted by the pandemic. The scholarship covers tuition, fees, and course materials for one approved class in either the May, Summer A, or Summer B semesters. This is a perfect opportunity those who have lost their jobs or have considered securing job training for better employment.

With warmer weather and spring rains, we are seeing rapid growth of weeds and grass. Soon mosquitos, fire ants and other critters will be taking advantage of areas not being taken care of. The City will be enforcing Nuisance and High grass ordinances. Also, please be mindful of your neighbor. If you see their grass or yard in need of care, volunteer your time and help.
