Mavs look to snap 4-game slide against Indians

The Eastland Mavericks probably feel like they have won the lottery this week as they prepare for Friday’s nondistrict finale against the Jim Ned Indians. For the first time since the 2022 season started, they won’t be facing a team that is unbeaten or ranked among the state’s best. For the first time, the Jim Ned Indians might be considered a break.

Cisco come back falls short against Breckenridge

The Cisco High School Loboes had their chances on Friday in front of a large crowd at Buckaroo Stadium in Breckenridge. Unfortunately for CHS fans, so did the Breckenridge Buckaroos. Breckenridge used a late defensive stand to escape with a 30-27 victory over Cisco in a non-district showdown. Breckenridge forced the Loboes to punt on their first possession and immediately drove down the field to score on a 49-yard pass from Chase Lehr to Adrian Ruiz. Sawyer Wimberley kicked the extra point to give Breckenridge a 7-0 lead. Cisco began its second possession at their own 30. A mixture of runs and passes moved the ball to the Buckaroo 6 before Hunter Long made his presence felt. Long ran into the end zone for the first CHS touchdown. Kanon Orsagh’s kick tied the score at 7-7 with 3:17 remaining in the first quarter.
