The Eastland Mavericks will face off with the Bells Panthers this Friday in the second round of the Class 3A, Division II, state football playoffs. The game will be played at 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 20 in Boyd.

DECATUR - Not every team gets a second chance to win a playoff game. Callisburg didn’t. In fact, they never even had a chance at all.

The Eastland Mavericks put themselves right where they needed to be on Friday. Eastland rode the right arm of quarterback Behren Morton to the District 5-3A championships by pounding out a stunning 65-19 victory over the Dublin Lions in front of a large crowd at Maverick Stadium.

Mark 2020 as a historic date for the Eastland High School Lady Mavericks’ cross-country team. The Lady Mavs ended a lengthy drought last week by racing their way to second-place at the District 8-3A meet and earning a berth for the team at the upcoming Region I-3A Cross Country Championships.
