2023 HISTORIC PRESERVATION GRANT APPLICATION PERIOD ANNOUNCED

The City of Eastland Historic Preservation Board has set the following dates for their 2023 Historic Preservation Grant period: Begin accepting applications April 1, 2022 through July 1, 2022. The board anticipates making recommendations from the applications to the City Commission at their regular September monthly meeting. The 2023 Grant period runs October 1, 2022 through September 30, 2023. Approved grants must be completed and reimbursed by September 15, 2023 as the grant period will close on September 30.

Area Catholic Churches presented the 3rd year of the Good Friday Passion Play on April 15th at their Catholic Project property. The Passion Play vividly depicted the final days of Jesus Christ’s life on earth. Everyone was welcome to attend. T time is over for U.S. military

The former USS Boulder, with its bow ramp already removed, sits in the Port of Brownsville while awaiting crews to begin dismantling it. The ship was decommissioned and scheduled for scrapping as the U.S. Navy purged itself of the LST vessels.

The USS Boulder, shown in its heyday, served as part of the U.S. Navy’s Atlantic fleet for more than 40 years.

Chaz Fountain danced around his grandfather’s feet on Friday morning at the All Star Metal and Scrapping facility at the Port of Brownsville. The 2-year old was much more interested in the seashells he could find on the ground that the hulking gray ship sitting in front of him.
