SITTING IN Eastland City Hall Commission meeting Monday evening, an old man ruminates… originally break room for Texas Electric Service Co. (TESCO) Area Headquarters… Frank Sayre (bright young retired Army Captain) came here with wife Millie—they lived in an upstairs garage apartment when they first came to town to represent the MAJOR power company headquarters in Fort Worth… So many TESCO names: Mike Kizer, the man who re-built the original Connellee Theatre POP CORN MACHINE (now still in use… Emmett Lasater, friend, confident and busy civic developer, now with his wife in East Texas (close to the kids)… Time moves on… Was it Comanche Peak (nuclear power generating plant) that “sunk” the company??? Who knows.

Peanut Festival goes Virtual
A Peanut Festival parade will not be held this year due to various concerns, but many of the regular contests will be held virtually according to an update on the festival’s facebook page. “ …Get a good photographer and get ready to enter: CarShow, Lil Goober Baby Contest, Best Beard Contest, Peanut Festival Queens Contest, Coloring Contest,” the update states. Each of the contests has an album on the Peanut Festival facebook page. Upload your photo into the right album. Deadline for all entries in every category is Thursday Sept. 10. All winners announced Saturday Sept. 12 during the Virtual Peanut Festival.

The ex-student homecoming meeting scheduled for Sept. 12, 2020, has been canceled, due to the COVID 19 virus.
City Commission Orders General Election
The 2020 General Election was ordered at a regular meeting of Gorman City Commissioners on Thursday, Aug. 20th. Early voting will be held from Oct. 13 - 16, Oct. 19 - 23, and Oct. 26 - 30 at the Gorman Community Center during business hours, City Secretary Tacy Warren announced. Longer hours are scheduled for Tuesday, October 20th and 27th. The General Election will be held on November 3, from 7 am - 7 pm, also at the Community Center. City elections are additionally on the ballot this year. Usually held in May, city elections were postponed until November due to the coronavirus pandemic outbreak.
