Great Turnout for Boots & Bags

The 3rd annual Boots & Bags Bingo had a wonderful turnout Saturday. This year’s theme was the 1920s. Eastland County Crisis and Children’s Advocacy Center have been doing this event for 3 years now in memory of Kathleen Jackson. Kathleen always gave of her time when it came to children, elderly and pretty much anyone in need. She would be honored knowing this event is in her name.

A REAL LIVE HORNED TOAD! ARE THEY BACK?

A REAL LIVE HORNED TOAD! ARE THEY BACK?

This one found in Eastland County by Phillip and Judy Murdock when they were plowing a field near Cisco - - Revered, but for too long, scarce - - they are the official Eastland County Mascot. You do know the history of the horned frog (toad) that slept 31 years in the corner stone of the County Courthouse, where you can see the original horned toad permanently displayed in the Lobby. It is a fantastic bit of factual county history! - - A live toad was placed by teenagers as a “lark” in the corner stone before it was sealed of the new building in 1897 AND 31 years later (in 1828) the SAME toad was removed alive and kicking, toured the nation, featured in Believe it Or Not, but alas, passed to be embalmed and put on permanent display for the world to see. Locals take oaths regularly asserting that it IS A TRUE ACCOUNT of the original Old Rip. So, look for more! If there is one, there has to be more! They are harmless, tough and love red ants, and after all the rain, ants are plentiful. So look for red ant mounds and you may find a harmless, rare, Texas icon - - the Horned Toad.
